Belize is a diverse and
beautiful country that offers numerous archaeological sites,
national parks, marine reserves, and wildlife sanctuaries
to explore. Belize is approximately two hours from three major
gateways in the United States (Miami, Houston, and Dallas)
and a quick trip from Mexico.
The most popular destination in Belize is
the island of Ambergris Caye. The second largest barrier reef
in the world is located a ½ mile from the shore of the island,
making it one of the premier dive destinations in the world.
The most popular dive sites are: Hol Chan marine reserve,
the Blue Hole, Mexico Rocks, and Coral Gardens. These sites
teem with tropical fish of every size, color, and description,
along with exotic corals, sponges, and sea fans. Windsurfing,
sea kayaking, catamaran sailing, jet skiing, parasailing,
and kite boarding are among some of the water sports available
while vacationing on Ambergris Caye.
The mainland of Belize is an hour away from Ambergris Caye
by boat or 15 minutes by plane. Many world-renowned Mayan
sites including Altun Ha, Cahal Pech, Caracol, El Pilar, Lamani,
and Xunantunich can be found there. The world famous Mayan
city of Tikal can be found just over the border in Guatemala.
Exploring these sites and taking in the views from atop are
extraordinary experiences.
There are many enjoyable mainland adventures available in
Belize including, cave tubing, river canoeing, caving, hiking,
zip lining, and horse back riding. The Belize Zoo is a great
place to see native animals in a natural setting. The zoo
is located 30 miles from Belize City. All of these activities
are accessible as day trips from Ambergris Caye, allowing
Coco Beach guests to be back in plenty of time to watch the
sunset on their private balcony.
